Dasagavya -Organic Inputs and Techniques :

dasagavya

Dasagavya is an organic preparation made from ten ingredients. “Gavya” is the term given to cow’s products comprising of cow dung, cow urine, cow’s milk, curd, and ghee, which have miraculous effects on plant growth when suitably mixed.

Surya Narayana Reddy, Chairman of Charaka Dairy Pvt Limited, Director Lavanya Reddy provides you with this amazing organic fertilizer with an intention to make earth organic. Helping out the farmers who are been spending a huge amount of chemical fertilizers which in return polluting the land and the food we consume which affects our health

Organic farming appealed to me because it involved searching for and discovering nature’s pathways, as opposed to the formulaic approach of chemical farming. The appeal of organic farming is boundless; this mountain has no top, this river has no end.

Chemical fertilizer works fast, costs less and is readily available in large quantities. One drawback is that it can “burn” plants, which means the chemicals dry out the plant tissue. Part of the plant may turn brown, or the whole plant might die. The other issue is that nitrogen can leach out of the soil during irrigation–nitrogen is so water-soluble that it drains out of the soil and into groundwater and other water. Not only would the plants not really be getting the nutrient they need, but the leached nitrogen can also cause serious health problems and birth defects in animals and humans using the water.

Whereas organic fertilizers are less likely to burn plants, they decompose slowly and therefore won’t over-fertilize plants and they contain other materials that benefit the overall health of the soil. Organic fertilizer is made chiefly of manure from farms, where it has to be collected and composted,, and there simply isn’t enough of it available to satisfy the demand.

Making/ Preparation Of Dasagavya :

  1. Take a wide mouth plastic, clay or wooden container. Do NOT use a metal container. Make sure its clean and sundry it for a day or two to sterilize it.
  2. DasagavyaMix the cow dung and ghee in the container using a wooden stick. Again do not use any metal here. Stir in a clockwise direction in a rhythmic motion. Then stir in an anti-clockwise direction. Do not mix vigorously. It will kill the beneficial microbes in cow dung.
  3. Cover the container using a thick cloth to protect it from insects. Leave this mixture for three days. Keep it away from direct sunlight and rain. Give it a stir once in the morning and once in the evening. Twelve times in each direction works well.
  4. On the fourth day slowly stir in all other ingredients. Make sure you are mixing them in while stirring the mixture in a single direction slowly.
  5. Leave this to ferment for 15 days.  Give it a stir once in the morning and once in the evening.dasagavya
